Digitalization is a very important part of implementing integrated water resources management (IWRM) and helps to use water in a more efficient way.
On 26 March 2024, the ‘Climate sensitive Water Resources Management in Central Asia’ project commissioned by the Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development, co-financed by Switzerland and implemented by GIZ handed over 13 sets of computers to a longstanding partner – the Water Infrastructure Safety Inspection of the Ministry of Water Resources of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The Head of the Inspection, Mr. Rustam Rakhimov, noted during the handover ceremony: “These computers will ensure the Inspection’s timely monitoring and reporting on the state of critical water infrastructure facilities’ operation and safety”.
The aim of the project activities is to share information and experience and expand knowledge about climate sensitive IWRM, planning, international water law and water diplomacy. Experts are developing a training concept and teaching resources on practice-oriented IWRM for water managers in responsible water management organisations. The project facilitates a basin dialogue along the Amu Darya and Syr Darya rivers, offers capacity building and technical support.
