Under the Green Central Asia Initiative, a regional competition in the five Central Asian countries of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan was held to develop an animated film that portrays the challenges, opportunities, or possibilities to better the situation of climate change in the respective country.
We take pride in introducing the winner from Uzbekistan who serves as an example for the communities in Central Asia and the world. All winners are engaged citizens that day by day contribute to making the world a little bit better.
Khaidarova Gulnora graduated from the Uzbekistan National University named after Mirzo Ulugbek in 2017 with a degree in General Geology, and in 2020 she defended her master’s thesis in the specialty “Geological survey and mineral resources.”
Since 2015, she has been working at the State Enterprise “Institute of Mineral Resources” as a Junior Researcher in the Department of Digital Cartography of Geological Works.
Gulnora is an active participant in various projects in the field of geology, writes articles, and is profound in using the software ArcGIS and other mapping programs.
She is an eco-activist, “today the environmental problems in the country become very acute. Limited natural resources, lack of drinking water, especially underground water, lead to life quality deterioration for all humanity, when the irrational use of coal affects our health,” says Gulnora.
“Our family is striving to save energy at home and trying to get others involved in the movement. When my husband talked about new eco-cartoon characters, I suggested making comics and an animated video. To my surprise, he won a small grant, which was used for the mini video “Smart City”. Our whole family was involved in the process.”
According to her, one of the solutions to such acute problems is the rational use of electricity, natural gas, and drinking water through the transition to alternative energy sources.
“As a mother, I want our children to live in an environmentally friendly country, so that Uzbekistan becomes one of the leaders in raising an environmentally-educated generation in the world, and so that our eco-characters are recognizable all over the world.”
