On September 20, 2022, Green Central Asia contributed to the conducting of the third EC IFAS Coordination Meeting with international development partners.
The meeting discussed the implementation of the Aral Sea Basin Program (ASBP-4), progress in improving the organizational structure and legal framework of IFAS, the IFAS Executive Committee’s Work Plan on Cooperation with International Development Partners for 2023 to address water and environmental issues, as well as the further development of regional cooperation within IFAS, considering the extended presidency of the Republic of Tajikistan.
Participants expressed commitment to further support on implementation of ASBP-4 and noted the importance of IFAS Executive Committee’s coordination platform with development partners, which provides information exchange and coordination between development partners and governments of Central Asian countries in implementation and monitoring of projects and programs in the region.

ASBP-4 was approved on June 29, 2021 by the IFAS Board Decision and its implementation was assigned to the Executive Committee of IFAS together with the Interstate Commission for Water Coordination (ICWC)and the Interstate Commission on Sustainable Development (ICSD).
ASBP-4 includes several projects, including investment projects that contribute to water, environmental, food and energy security in Central Asia. It also aims to implement joint actions and future programs to tackle the Aral Sea crisis and strengthen regional cooperation through targeted actions at the national, regional and international levels. It was developed with the support of the Transboundary Water Management in Central Asia Programme commissioned by the Federal Foreign Office of Germany and implemented by GIZ.
