In the third webinar “Outlining the economic foundations of regional cooperation on water in Central Asia” organized in the frame of the ‘Blue Peace’ Initiative of the Swiss Foreign Ministry, programme manager Dr. Caroline Milow represented the Green Central Asia Initiative of the German Federal Foreign Office and spoke about the importance of regional cooperation and what are the consequences of failure.
Ms. Milow outlined cooperation on the political stage, economy, energy and water in Central Asia and gave examples of existing cooperation. She lobbied for continuous efforts to bridge the cooperation gap in joint management of transboundary hydro facilities, to take a nexus approach and to apply integrated water resources management throughout the region.
The organizers acknowledged that all parties have a more profound insight into the benefits of regional cooperation. Special attention during the webinar was devoted to discussing possible ways of translating strong political will into action. Representative of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan have shared their views.
