On the occasion of the World Environment Day, held this year in Turkmenistan under the motto "Turkmenistan - the home of peace and trust", a forum was organized, attended by representatives of local and international communities, working in the field of environmental protection and implementing environmental programs and projects - both in Central Asia and in the world.
The participants listened attentively to the Message of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov addressed to the specialists of the area of environmental protection of Turkmenistan.
In his message, the President of Turkmenistan touched on the theme of cooperation with international organizations: "We successfully cooperate with many international and regional organisations. First of all, these are such specialized organizations of UN as the Development Program, the Environment Program, the Food and Agriculture Organization, the Global Environment Facility, the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea, the Regional Environmental Center of Central Asia, the German Organization for International Cooperation (GIZ). We have new initiatives aimed at ensuring environmental welfare”.
Dr. Caroline Milow, programme manager of the "Green Central Asia", held a speech at the forum and congratulated all citizens of Turkmenistan on the significant event - the anniversary of Independence and sincerely wished success and new achievements for the prosperity of Turkmenistan. She emphasized that Green Central Asia is a platform, which aims to provide a space for better coordination of German "green" activities in the Central Asian region. The platform aims to better understand climate and security, coordinate a regional approach, and share best practices and technologies.
For information: June 5 - World Environment Day, established by the UN General Assembly in 1972 and has been celebrated since then in many countries, bringing together the world community to more actively demonstrate solidarity in addressing global issues. This day is an occasion to reflect on the responsibility of everyone for the environmental state of the planet and the need for respect for nature, as well as an opportunity to take an active part in the preservation of its natural beauty and resources for the benefit of future generations.
