From 15 to 17 September 2026, the first international training workshop ‘Technical Support and Assessment of Water Resources Management, Flood Protection and Warning Systems’ was held in Cholpon-Ata, Kyrgyzstan.
The workshop brought together representatives of water and emergency management institutions from all five Central Asian countries, as well as experts from Slovakia. The three-day programme focused on practical knowledge and experience in water resources management, flood protection, early warning systems and dam safety.
Experts from VODOHOSPODÁRSKA VÝSTAVBA, Slovakia, presented approaches to water management, flood protection and early warning systems, including the relevant legislative framework, monitoring and practical experience. Representatives of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan then shared how these areas are organised in their respective countries.
The exchange helped identify common challenges and needs and provided a basis for further cooperation and practical transfer of experience. The workshop contributed to strengthening knowledge and capacities of Central Asian institutions and supports continued dialogue on the sustainable and climate-resilient management of water resources in the Amu Darya and Syr Darya river basins.
