Shaping Knowledge for a Sustainable Water Future

A regional workshop for the evaluation of the certification course was held in Tashkent from 14 to 16 April 2026.

The workshop, which focused on developing a climate- and gender-sensitive training concept and methodological materials on IWRM for regional and national basin organisations, was organised by the team from Martin Luther University (MLU, Germany) and brought together university representatives from Central Asia and Germany, as well as experts from GIZ, CAREC , SDC and others, to review and further develop the certification course materials. These included the textbook and handbook on climate-sensitive integrated water resources management (IWRM).

Over the course of three days, participants engaged in:

– an in-depth review and validation of the IWRM textbook modules

– discussions on modern teaching methods and training approaches

– exchange of experience on bridging knowledge and practice

– presentations on innovative solutions, including the automation of transboundary hydroposts.

The team of MLU prepared and presented interactive materials to intensively discuss e.g. the IWRM and the potential climate change impact on water resources

CAREC presented a key contribution, highlighting its role in supporting the validation and roll-out of the certification course across the region and ensuring that knowledge is effectively translated into practice.

The workshop concluded with a shared commitment to refining the training materials further and advancing the implementation of the certification course, thereby contributing to more resilient and climate-responsive water management systems in Central Asia.
