Over one thousand schoolchildren from the Kyzylorda region took part in the Syr Darya River Day celebrations

On November 7, Vice Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Aslan Abdraimov held an open lesson on water conservation at Secondary School No. 290 in the city of Kyzylorda. The event was organized within the framework of the project “Save Water – Preserve the Future!”, implemented by the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation with the support of the Regional Programme ‘Climate-sensitive Water Resources Management in Central Asia’ as well as in cooperation with the National Information and Analytical Center for Water Resources and the Akimat of the Kyzylorda Region.

The open lesson brought together 140 high school students from 15 schools in the city. An additional 900 schoolchildren from seven districts of the region, including rural schools, participated online.

Aslan Abdraimov spoke to the students about the importance of using water resources efficiently and presented key methods of water conservation. He also answered students’ questions. The participants showcased their project ideas aimed at developing and implementing water-saving solutions.

The Vice Minister presented the administration of Secondary School No. 290 with a financial certificate for installing a drip irrigation system to green the school courtyard.

On the same day, the Kyzylorda Regional Palace of Schoolchildren hosted the closing ceremony of the “Save Water – Preserve the Future!” project, which ran from October 1 to November 7. The event featured an award ceremony for the winners of a children’s drawing contest on the theme of water conservation, which attracted more than 800 participants aged 5 to 10. The authors of the 20 best works received winner’s diplomas and gift certificates for art supplies.

As a reminder, several activities were held in Kyzylorda as part of the “Save Water – Preserve the Future!” project to raise awareness among children and their parents about the importance of careful water use. The first event was the eco-run “Syr Darya – the Future of Central Asia”, held along the bank of the transboundary river. Participants collected 120 kg of household waste, cleaning part of the riverbank from plastic and other debris. Winners of the eco-run also received diplomas and commemorative gifts.
