With the assistance of the GIZ, a working visit by delegations from Central Asian countries took place. The visit focused on sustainable energy development, the exchange of best practices, and strengthening regional cooperation. The initiative was implemented within the framework of the EU4SustainableCentralAsia: Renewable Energy in Central Asia (EURECA) project, supported by the European Union and Germany. The visit included thematic meetings, technical visits, and a regional dialogue on energy policy.
The Turkmen delegation included three representatives from the Ministry of Energy of Turkmenistan. The Central Asian delegations were represented by heads and deputy heads of relevant agencies, as well as technical specialists.
On October 10, a dialogue between energy sector leaders from Central Asian countries was held at the GIZ office in Brussels, with the participation of representatives from the EU and GIZ. The meeting’s agenda focused on strengthening consensus on renewable energy priorities and regional electricity trade, as well as discussing practical steps to develop cross-border cooperation, harmonize market approaches, and prepare joint statements for the future. Along with the heads of relevant ministries from Central Asian countries, Turkmenistan’s Ambassador to the Kingdom of Belgium, Sapar Palvanov, delivered a welcoming address at the opening. In his address, the Ambassador emphasized Turkmenistan’s dual responsibility as an energy power: ensuring stable and secure energy supplies in the region while simultaneously fulfilling its climate commitments and promoting clean energy. He presented the country’s regulatory and strategic framework and cited practical examples: the completion of a 10 MW hybrid solar-wind power plant and preparations for the launch of a 300 MW solar power plant, which has attracted strong interest from international partners. Work on developing wind energy and implementing smart solutions, including in the city of Arkadag, was also highlighted. The Ambassador placed particular emphasis on personnel training and practice-oriented cooperation programs with GIZ.
The Global Gateway Forum 2025 was held in Brussels, including a series of sessions on expanding the Global Gateway’s flagship projects, including scaling up hydropower potential in Central Asia. Turkmenistan was represented at this session by representatives of the Ministry of Energy, the Ministry of Finance and Economy, and the Embassy of Turkmenistan in the Kingdom of Belgium. Participants took part in specialized discussions with European partners and international financial institutions on the preparation and scaling up of green projects, including regional hydropower and grid infrastructure modernization.
The Embassy of Turkmenistan in Belgium expresses its gratitude to GIZ and the EURECA project team for the professional organization of the visit of Central Asian delegations to Brussels and the substantive content of the agenda.
