As part of the celebration of the International Syr Darya River Day and with the support of the ‘Climate-sensitive Water Resources Management in Central Asia’ programme, implemented by GIZ, the ‘Green Alliance Kyrgyzstan’ team organized a large-scale environmental campaign.
The activities covered the Naryn, Osh, and Jalal-Abad regions. More than 100 participants of various backgrounds joined the clean-up events, including university students, schoolchildren, teachers, bank employees, national park staff, and local activists.
Volunteers worked on cleaning riverbanks from accumulated household waste, plastic debris, and glass. The collected waste was sorted, and recyclable materials were sent to specialized recycling points.
Results by region:
Salkyn-Tor, Naryn region — participants collected 35 bags of various types of waste, requiring considerable effort from the volunteer team.
Ak-Buura, Osh region — more than 40 active participants joined forces to clean the river and its surrounding areas.
Kugart, Jalal-Abad region — dozens of volunteers focused on collecting plastic and glass, paying special attention to small litter.
The organizers express their sincere gratitude to all participants for their contribution to preserving the nature of Kyrgyzstan.
Such initiatives not only help clean water bodies but also raise public environmental awareness and promote a responsible attitude toward the environment.
