On September 6–7, 2025, in the Issyk-Kul region, the regional project ‘Climate-sensitive Water Resources Management in Central Asia’, implemented by GIZ, supported the forum ‘Development of the Water Sector through Basin Management Principles in Kyrgyzstan’.
The forum brought together representatives of the main water management departments and basin administrations of the Kyrgyz Republic. Participants discussed the implementation of the National Water Strategy–2040 and steps to further strengthen basin management. The central theme of the meeting was the introduction of the basin approach to water resources management — one of the key directions in the development of the country’s water sector.
As a result, priority plans and recommendations were agreed upon to enhance the efficiency and transparency of the water sector.
