As part of the Syrdarya River Day celebrations, an environmental clean-up campaign was held on 22 August at Bahri Tojik beach, which is located within the Tajik section of the Syrdarya River basin..
Organised under the project ‘Climate-sensitive Water Resources Management in Central Asia’, the initiative brought together high school students from 15 cities and districts in the Sughd Region. The students showcased strong civic responsibility and a genuine commitment to protecting the environment. Their active participation set a vivid example of how the younger generation is willing to contribute to preserving our shared natural heritage.
The campaign aimed to raise environmental awareness among young people and to contribute to the protection of the region’s water resources in a practical way. Particular focus was placed on collecting plastic, household waste and other pollutants that are harmful to the aquatic ecosystem.
The event was conducted in a spirit of cooperation and unity, emphasising that the protection of nature for future generations can only be ensured through joint efforts. As well as cleaning up, participants engaged in educational outreach with local communities, raising awareness of the importance of using natural resources rationally and adhering to environmental standards.
