A study tour for representatives of Central Asian water ministries took place in the Netherlands from 10 to 14 March 2025.
Participants visited the Aquatech exhibition in Amsterdam, where they explored the latest technologies and innovations in water management, including digital solutions to improve efficiency and effectiveness. At the exhibition, participants also met and engaged with companies and research institutions from the Dutch, Finnish and German (Bavaria) pavilions.
In The Hague, the Central Asian delegation met with representatives of the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Dutch Disaster Risk Reduction and Surge Support (DRRS) programme management and the Dutch Enterprise Agency (RVO) at the MFA building. They also visited the Deltares Research and Knowledge Institute in Delft, where they learned about the institute’s ongoing activities, including a forthcoming project in Central Asia, and toured its water laboratory.
At the end of the tour, participants identified several companies as potential partners for future cooperation. In particular, the countries expressed interest in sharing knowledge with Deltares and noted positively the technical expertise of the state DRRS programme and the emergency deployment of its specialists during the floods in Kazakhstan in 2024.
The study tour was organised in partnership with the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Central Asia under the European Union Action “EU4SustainableCentralAsia: Joint Action and Coordination on Water, Energy and Climate Change”, implemented by GIZ. This action is an integral part of the Team Europe Initiative (TEI). TEI involves the EU Commission, the EBRD, the EIB and the Team Europe Member States, namely Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Latvia, the Netherlands, Romania and the Slovak Republic.
