Cross-border training sessions within the framework of the GIZ Regional Project “Climate-Resilient Water Resource Management in Central Asia” were successfully completed in Kyrgyzstan. These sessions were aimed at enhancing the capacity of basin organizations in Central Asian countries to engage in Integrated Water Resource Management (IWRM). The Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia (CAREC), with support from Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, organized the event.
The training sessions took place on the following dates and locations:
- Chu-Talas Basin:
- Kyrgyz Republic, Bishkek, October 22. Target organizations: Chuy and Talas Main Department of Water Resources.
- Syr Darya:
- Kyrgyz Republic, Osh, October 24. Target organizations: Osh Main Department of Water Resources, Batken Main Department of Water Resources, Naryn Main Department of Water Resources, Jalalabad Basin Water Management Department, Karadarya-Syr Darya-Amu Darya Basin Water Resources Management. Representatives of water sector of Uzbekistan.
These training sessions helped strengthen cross-border cooperation in the region, facilitating discussions on effective water-use practices, the application of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and water accounting automation. This will ultimately enhance water resource management quality.
