Sustainable strategies for efficient water resource management for the Kyrgyz Republic

A first coordination meeting of the restructured Water Resources Service of the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry of the Kyrgyz Republic was held on September 7, 2024 in Issyk-Kul. The event was made possible with the support of the GIZ Regional Programme “Climate Sensitive Water Resources Management in Central Asia”, commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and co-financed by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), and the World Bank. The event brought together key stakeholders, including Water Resources Service employees, district and rayon Water Management Department heads, and representatives from the “Development of Drinking Water Supply and Sewerage” project.

The primary aim of the meeting was to develop sustainable strategies for efficient water resource management. Participants focused on improving irrigation, drinking water quality, and sanitation systems, while receiving updates on ongoing projects and future plans. The session also facilitated discussions on forming partnerships to ensure the long-term protection and management of water resources, recognizing their social and economic significance.
