On September 18, 2024, the Executive Committee of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea organized a coordination meeting in Astana, signifying the first meeting since the beginning of the current chairmanship of Kazakhstan in the organization.
Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Mr. Kanat Bozumbayev, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation of Kazakhstan Mr. Nurzhan Nurzhigitov, Chairman of the IFAS Executive Committee Mr. Askhat Orazbay, Deputy Prime Minister of Tajikistan Mr. Sulaymon Ziyozoda, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan Mr. Tangrykuli Atakhalliyev, and the Advisor to the President of Uzbekistan Shukhrat Ganiev were among the senior dignitaries at the meeting. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kyrgyz Republic to Kazakhstan Mr. Dastan Dyushekeev represented the Kyrgyz Republic.
Participants of the meeting included the representatives of various international organizations and diplomatic missions, who presented the results of the implementation of the respective projects and future planned activities. GIZ Programme Manager, Dr. Caroline Millow gave a presentation about the ‘Green Central Asia’ and the ‘Climate-sensitive Water Resources Management in Central Asia’.
Concluding the coordination meeting, IFAS Executive Committee and GIZ signed a Memorandum of Understanding, which reiterated the existing commitments between the parties with respect to implementing projects in the fields of climate change, environmental protection, water resources, renewable energy, biodiversity, and sustainable agriculture within the framework of the Green Central Aia Initiative.
