Recognition and relevance of the Central Asian Leadership Programme on Environment for Sustainable Development

On September 11-12, 2024, two GIZ programmes ‘Green Central Asia’ and ‘Climate Risk Management in Central Asia’ supported the 14th Conference of the Central Asian Leadership Programme on Environment for Sustainable Development

The Conference was organized by CAREC in cooperation with the Swiss Initiative Blue Peace Central Asia, the OSCE Programme Offices in Astana, Bishkek, Dushanbe.

Thematic areas of the Conference were related to various topics as glacial horizons, mountains disaster risk management, water diplomacy, transboundary waters, glaciers, high altitude lake, water resources management.

The activities of the GIZ programmes were presented, and the representatives of the Central Asian Regional Glaciological Center and the Institute of Geography and Water Security to review topics in the study of cryosphere components together with studies of mudflows, avalanches and landslides in the mountainous areas of Ile Alatau were invited.

The Green Central Asia programme organized a visit for delegates to the emergency center with a subsequent trip to the Alma-Arasan gorge to visit hydro posts and the Big Almaty Lake.
