27 selected representatives from ministries, governmental and scientific institutions, non-governmental organizations across five Central Asian countries successfully completed Training-of-Trainers (ToT) programme on effective management of climate risks and implementation of adaptation strategies. The ToT programme was conducted from June to September 2024 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, in the framework of the regional programme “Climate Risk Management in Central Asia” implemented by GIZ on behalf of the German Government.
Three intensive sessions that combined workshop and practical exercises helped to equip participants with comprehensive thematic knowledge and tools. They engaged in discussions about climate hazards, developed adaptation measures, and practiced delivering training on these methods. The training programme also included the sessions on importance of considering gender roles and the needs of vulnerable groups in risk management strategies. Moreover, participants explored the special Climate Risk Assessment (CRA) methodology, which integrates stakeholder engagement and country-specific adaptation plans.
“During the discussion, it became clear that most of us had limited experience with climate risk assessment processes before this,” said participants of ToT.
They successfully elevated their expertise and received certificates as regional trainers promoting a holistic approach to adaptation and collaborative problem-solving related to climate change and its impacts. Their future engagement and efforts should help to enhance the region’s resilience to climate change.
