On September 11, the Steering Committee for the new GIZ project, “EU for a green Turkmenistan: Policy Dialogue and Climate Action 2024-2028” convened its first meeting in Ashgabat. Funded by the European Union and the German Federal Foreign Office, the Project aims to establish an effective dialogue between EU and Turkmen government structures to promote renewable energy and improve energy efficiency by reducing methane and greenhouse gas emissions.
The Steering Committee consists of representatives from the EU Delegation, the German Embassy, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, the Ministry of Energy of Turkmenistan, the State Concern “Turkmengas”, the Ministry of Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan and the GIZ project team. During the meeting the project’s terms of reference (ToR), the operational plan, pilot initiatives and communication and visibility concept were presented and formally approved by all participating parties.
