On August 14-15, delegations led by emergency authorities from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, along with representatives from international and non-governmental organizations, gathered in Issyk-Kul for the Regional Forum โ€“ Meeting of Heads of Emergency Authorities. During the event, participants discussed issues of international cooperation in implementation of Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction in the region. Particularly significant was the issue of ensuring the population’s access to early warning systems. ย Further measures to create a digital atlas of transboundary hazards of Central Asian countries were also discussed. International organizations presented their activities and in the framework of bilateral meetings discussed details of joint work in the field of disaster risk reduction and establishment of a regional early warning system in Central Asia.

Ministers of Emergency Agencies noted the important role of the Center for Emergency Situations and Disaster Risk Reduction (hereinafter referred to as the Center) in the region and agreed on the Center’s roadmap for 2025-2026. This platform served as a basis for sharing experiences and discussing concerted actions that promote climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction.

The Center for Emergency Situations and Disaster Risk Reduction serves as the Secretariat of the Regional Forum, with support from the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction, the UN Development Programme, and GIZ within the realization of the programme โ€˜Climate Risk Management in Central Asiaโ€™.
