On October 17, 2023 in Astana, a meeting was held at the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation of the Republic of Kazakhstan between the Deutsche Gesellschaft für international Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH Green Central Asia Programme team headed by Dr. Caroline Milow and the Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Mr. Nurzhan Nurzhigitov.
The meeting was arranged for the official signing of the Implementation Agreement between the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation of the Republic of Kazakhstan and GIZ for the Climate Sensitive Water Resources Management in Central Asia Project. The project was initiated within the framework of the Regional Action Plan of the Green Central Asia Programme and aims to promote regional cooperation in the water sector in Central Asia and improve awareness as well as build capacity in all five Central Asian states about the principles of sustainable integrated water resources management (IWRM).
During the meeting, the Minister noted the positive cooperation with GIZ within the framework of the Green Central Asia Initiative and expressed gratitude to GIZ for the new regional Climate Sensitive Water Resources Management in Central Asia programme.
„I hope that our joint actions will allow achieving our goals and strengthen cooperation between the countries of Central Asia in the water resources management sector. Effective and proper use of water is one of the main challenges facing our region, so we will overcome all the challenges facing us together and with the support of our German partners,” – stated the Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Mr. Nurzhan Nurzhigitov.
