On July 4-5, 2023, in Almaty, the Green Central Asia Programme organized the 4th regional inter-governmental working group meeting on the Regional Climate Change Adaptation Strategy in Central Asia.
In this meeting, representatives of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, relevant sector ministries and state committees, as well as international, regional, and national experts discussed the finalization of the strategy document. The delegates actively and very lively discussed the draft document and could agree on all major issues; however, the monitoring and evaluation mechanism for the strategy needs some further effort. Until the end of August/beginning of September fine tuning will be done on the text and shared with all countries’ governments again. There was a consensus that the final and approved Strategy shall be presented in December at COP-28 in Dubai.
For reference:
The development of the Strategy document began in February 2022 with the establishment of the inter-governmental working group. Its members are representatives of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Central Asia, as well as representatives of state organizations working in the field of environment, emergency response, water and energy including hydromets and scientific institutes. The working group had already gathered three times before. More information can be accessed at: www.greencentralasia.org
