On September 27-28, Green Central Asia brought together experts in Tashkent at a working group meeting on glacier monitoring, modeling – coordination and cooperation among the five Central Asian partner countries, represented by the following institutions: Republic of Kazakhstan – Central Asian Regional Glaciological Center; Kyrgyz Republic – Central Asian Institute of Applied Geosciences; Republic of Tajikistan – State Scientific Center on Glaciers under the National Academy of Sciences; Republic of Uzbekistan – Hydrometeorological Center of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
On the basis of reports prepared by national experts proposals for the regional working group were made, such as a drafting a road map for a Memorandum between the research centers for studying glaciers in each country and the hydrometeorological services of the Central Asia countries on further joint work, and the creation of a political and institutional framework for the development of joint monitoring and modeling of glaciers.
A compilation of the prepared national reports will be soon published on the website.
The second meeting of the Regional Working Group is scheduled for 1 December in Tashkent.
