On September 20, 2022, Green Central Asia together with other international partners contributed to the regional workshop “Central Asia on the way to the UN Water Conference 2023” organized by the Executive Committee of International Fund for saving the Aral Sea (IFAS). Green Central Asia is currently developing with the five Central Asian partner countries a Regional Climate Change Adaptation Strategy as part of implementing the Aral Sea Basin Programme 4 of IFAS.
The main objective of this workshop was to demonstrate cooperation of the Central Asian countries in making commitments for new actions addressing water challenges and to familiarizing participants with the goals, objectives and principles of the UN Water Conference 2023. Participants discussed the Central Asian vision on topics of the Interactive Dialogues, as well as possible voluntary commitments of the region and development partners to include in the Water Action Agenda of the UN Conference.
During the workshop, suggestions were received from the countries on voluntary commitments to be included in the Joint Statement of Central Asia and Development Partners.
Representatives of Central Asian governments took part in the seminar, including Mr. D. Shofakir, Minister of Energy and Water Resources of the Republic of Tajikistan, Mr. Sh. Khamraev, Minister of Water Resources of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Mr. S. Mukataev, Vice-Minister of Ecology, Geology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Mr. Y. Pashshiev, Head of Water Use Department of State Committee for Water Resources of Turkmenistan, Mr. A. Dzayloobayev, Deputy Director of Water Resources Service at the Ministry of Agriculture of the Kyrgyz Republic as well as Representatives of intergovernmental organizations, international financial institutions, other international agencies, non-governmental organizations, civil society organizations, academic institutions, academia, the private sector, etc.
