On the agenda: mutually beneficial water and energy cooperation

On May 19, 2022, Green Central Asia held the First Regional Working Group Meeting in an online format to discuss a mutually beneficial water-energy cooperation mechanism for Central Asia.

The meeting was attended by working group members appointed from each Central Asian country (representatives from Central Asian foreign ministries, relevant line ministries, and government agencies/committees).

All CA countries expressed readiness and interest in finding solutions to foster water-energy cooperation and security in the region.

The working group aims at drafting a document with national expert support which will be submitted to decision-makers for further consideration. Currently, ideas and priorities of the countries are collected for analysis. Discussion points and possible ideas on a mechanism are planned to be presented at a high-level political dialogue, within the framework “Green Central Asia” at the end of 2022.

The 2nd WG meeting is scheduled for September 2022, possibly in an offline format in one of the Central Asian countries in an extended format to discuss the proposals received and the further preparation of a common draft document.
