Together with the Tajik State Agency on Surveillance and Safety of Hydraulic Structures the training „Ensuring the safety of hydraulic facilities by using mobile dam-safety laboratory special equipment” was conducted from 8 to 10 April 2021 at the Kayrokkum hydro power plant (Tajikistan). The three-day training offered theoretical and practical knowledge on dam safety regulations and on how to use devices and instruments of a mobile dam-safety laboratory.
General regulations on the safety of hydraulic structures in Tajikistan were reviewed as well as basic requirements for hydrotechnical facilities safety were also analyzed. Worldwide experience of hydraulic facilities, their proper maintenance and best practices were demonstrated.
Hydraulic facilities in Tajikistan have a high importance for the economic and social stability of the country. They produce more than 95% of the total energy in Tajikistan. The State Agency on Surveillance and Safety of Hydraulic Structures, established in 2014, is the only state institution in Tajikistan authorized to supervise all hydraulic structures in the country.
The project “Capacity building of the State Agency on Surveillance and Safety of Hydraulic Structures” financed by the German Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development supports the Agency in fulfilling its mandate of monitoring and ensuring the safety of all hydraulic facilities in Tajikistan. It focuses on modernizing the Agency’s technical equipment, developing the capacities of the staff and on updating and further developing important legal and normative documents related to the maintenance of hydrotechnical facilities.
