On July 8, a one-day training on climate change adaptation in the Kafirnigan River Basin was held in Dushanbe. The event aimed to strengthen the resilience of the region’s water resources to climate-related challenges.
The training brought together 25 participants — members of the Basin Women’s Forum, representatives of local communities, water management authorities, the agricultural sector, and research institutions. Participants learned about methods for assessing climate risks, adaptation measures in the water and agricultural sectors, as well as examples of nature-based solutions.
Special attention was given to the integration of local knowledge and needs into adaptation strategies, which is particularly relevant for transboundary rivers such as the Kafirnigan.
The Basin Women’s Forum played a key role in organizing the training, serving as a platform to promote women’s participation in water resource management and climate change adaptation. The active involvement of women from both rural and urban areas contributed to a better understanding of the region’s socio-economic context and enhanced cross-sectoral cooperation.
The training marked an important step towards building a more inclusive and resilient approach to climate risk management in the Kafirnigan River Basin.
