On 1 October 2026, the 4th Syr Darya Basin Youth Forum brought together more than 170 young environmental activists, teachers, experts and government representatives from Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan in Guliston, Tajikistan.
The Forum provided a regional platform to exchange experiences and explore practical solutions for environmental protection, sustainable water management and climate change.
A key focus was the achievements of the ‘Green Patrols’ movement during the 2025-2026 academic year. Participants conducted more than 3,600 additional environmental education sessions and planted over 2,500 saplings, alongside organising environmental campaigns, competitions and educational activities for children and young people.
The hands-on programme included team activities to build models of the Syr Darya River Basin, as well as workshops on environmental journalism, groundwater, nature-based solutions, artificial intelligence and integrated water resources management. The Forum also recognised the winners of the ‘Best Green Patrols Teacher 2025-2026’ competition and presented the movement’s action plan for the coming academic year.
In 2026-2027, Green Patrols will continue their joint activities in Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan, strengthening environmental education, youth engagement and regional cooperation. The next milestone will be the 5th Youth Forum, where teams from the three countries will share their achievements and new initiatives.
The Forum highlighted the important role of young people in building environmental awareness, protecting natural resources and shaping a more sustainable future for Central Asia.
