The regional project ‘Climate-sensitive Water Resources Management in Central Asia’, implemented by GIZ supported a series of capacity-building training sessions for members of the Kafirnigan Basin Women’s Forum (BWF). Held in Dushanbe from 8 to 11 July, the training formed part of ongoing efforts to strengthen women’s capacities and enhance their role in sustainable water resources management.
The programme brought together four complementary training courses designed to expand participants’ technical knowledge, leadership skills, and communication capacities.
During the ‘Nexus Approach’ training, participants explored the interconnections between water, energy, and food resources, gaining a broader understanding of today’s environmental and socio-economic challenges and integrated approaches to addressing them.
The ‘Water Diplomacy’ training focused on negotiation techniques, conflict prevention, and dispute resolution in the field of water resources management. Participants also applied their newly acquired knowledge during an interactive simulation exercise based on real-life water management scenarios.
The ‘Leadership and Teamwork’ training helped participants strengthen their leadership competencies, improve teamwork skills, and develop the confidence and initiative needed to drive collaborative actions within their communities.
Equally important was the ‘Public Speaking’ training, which enabled participants to enhance their presentation and communication skills, build confidence in public speaking, and effectively engage with diverse audiences.
The training series is part of the project’s long-term support for the Kafirnigan Basin Women’s Forum, aimed at empowering women through continuous learning, professional development, and greater participation in water governance and decision-making processes.
The knowledge and practical skills gained throughout the programme will enable Forum members to play a more active role in promoting sustainable water resources management, fostering dialogue among stakeholders, and implementing initiatives that contribute to the resilience and sustainable development of local communities and the wider region.
