Opening of the Water Diplomacy Center in the Republic of Tajikistan

A ceremonial event was held on 12 November in Dushanbe to mark the official opening of the Water Diplomacy Center at the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, with the participation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan.

This Center was established with the support of the regional programme ‘Climate-sensitive Water Resources Management in Central Asia’, implemented by GIZ.

This landmark event coincided with the 25th anniversary of the United Nations General Assembly Resolution “International Year of Freshwater, 2003,” initiated by H.E. Emomali Rahmon, President of the Republic of Tajikistan.

The opening of the Center carries profound symbolic significance – not only for Tajikistan but also for the international community. A quarter of a century ago, Tajikistan launched the global water dialogue, emphasizing that water is not merely a natural resource, but a source of peace, sustainable development, and mutual understanding among nations and peoples.

Under the leadership of President Emomali Rahmon, Tajikistan has become a global advocate for the international water agenda, promoting regional cooperation and global solidarity.

The establishment of the Water Diplomacy Center stands as a vivid example of translating visionary ideas into practical action. It will serve as a platform for academic exchange, professional development, and the advancement of innovative approaches to water resource management, while fostering trust-based dialogue on transboundary and climate-related issues – continuing Tajikistan’s mission as a recognized leader in global water diplomacy.
